OMS PTO Meeting Minutes

November 11th, 9am

Administration:

Principal, Mr. Troutman talked about the 8th grade and what it should mean to them.  College transcript starts now.  Talked about Algebra 1 and 2 and gave his 1st impression about it.  Learning is your responsibility.  120,000 kids go for Penn State level 1 languages.  With the curriculum change there are now 32 extra class periods a year.  Student discipline is much better without Activity period.  A positive affect!  Make sure that guided practice is being used.  We will send out an email about this.  So far, so good!  No real complaints this year, yet!  Dance was great.  Kids were getting into the games that night.  This helps separate them.  We would rather have them here then on the street.  Mr. Troutman wished everyone a happy holiday and also safe travels.  Hope everyone comes back safe.

Assistant Principal, Mrs. Ouly thanked all the volunteers.  Can’t do it without you!  She also appreciates the understanding about the cell phone issue.  Once the kids are in the building cell phones must be kept in the lockers and must be turned off.  There will be a note put on the calendar with regards to no cell phone use during school hours!

PTO Board:

President, Cindy Anderson welcomed the PTO members in attendance and thanked all those who helped with fundraisers.  Newsletter deadline is November 21st.  Website is a good tool to stay in touch.  Helpers remember to sign in at the office and also indicate where you are going to be.  No VP report today.  Spring volunteer sheets – be sure to check over it and check if anything is missing.

Treasurer, Natalie Ziegenfuss gave her report of the budget.  Checking balance is $29,357.94.  We received (3) bounced checks.  QSP is wrapping up and PTO donations have stopped.  Skating party and Book Socks are complete.  Enjoy the City fundraiser does not have a status report yet.  Ross Flowers – loss of $28 (lost voucher?).  Sales Tax:  Dept of Revenue called Oct. 30th for audit.  Must change sales tax.  This is the only way of getting caught – audit!  Back sales tax penalty – PTO picks up sales tax.

Communication:  Directory Distribution.  There are some mistakes.  Some 7th graders are listed as 6th graders and some 9th are listed as 8th.  We have to be more careful.  We need more than 1 person to check and verify the lists.  One from each grade level would be perfect.

Website:  No problems.

Yearbook:  Extended.  Check had to be returned so it would be in our name.

Student pictures:  Michelle says thank you to everyone who helped.

Student Related:  Fall book fair went well.  The kids all had a good time.  We added an extra day.  The library audio video wish list was fulfilled.  Thanks for all the help.  Skating parties went well.  Side note:  Field trip to Strawberry Acres – Thanks PTO from all the students on that trip!

ARP:  No information at this time.

Cindy asks that she be CC’d on all emails that pertain to PTO business.

Clothing Drive:  Drop off November 19, 20, 21.  Report to the office with the items to the person in charge.  We will bag clothing on Dec. 3rd at 9:00am.

Community Service Night:  Battle of the Bands.  Phyllis would love ideas for this, not exactly sure what to do.  Date?  Spring?  March date?  Need to talk with Mr. Troutman about it.

Cindy Anderson closed the meeting.   The next morning meeting will be December 9th at 9am.
