OMS PTO Meeting Minutes

September 9th 9am and September 16th 7pm

Administration:

Principal, Mr. Troutman introduced himself and welcomed the PTO back for the 2008-2009 school year.  He spoke about the schedule change and explained that among other benefits it offers more time for the teachers to work with the children.  He pointed out that there will not be more work but more time for the teacher to offer help to the students.  The “flex periods” will also offer a time for students to receive help if needed.  It will provide a more constructive “Activity Period” and the 6 marking periods offer parents an exact grade rather then a percentage as was the old mid-term progress reports standard.  Mr. Troutman also went over the Longitudinal Data showing that Orefield has made great strides in overall performance in the last few years.  Mr. Troutman asked that if you have not already done so please return your “Connect Ed.” sheets. This is the new contact system to relay important information from the school district to students and families.  If you need to change any information at anytime please contact the school office.

Assistant Principal, Mrs. Ouly also introduced herself and greeted the PTO.  She has asked for volunteers to help with the upcoming Photo Day and Hearing Screening. (The PTO Volunteer Coordinators have already covered those two events).

PTO Board:

President, Cindy Anderson welcomed the PTO members in attendance and thanked all those who helped on the Welcome Packets this summer.  A special “thank you” to Michele Kurtz for organizing the event.  A committee is being formed to review and update the PTO By-Laws. If you are interested in helping on this committee please contact either Cindy Anderson ([email protected]) or Marsha Cervantes ([email protected] ).  No date had been set for a meeting, look for future information.  Cindy introduced all the board members and committee chairpersons.

Treasurer, Natalie Ziegenfuss gave her report of the budget.  She explained that reimbursement forms may be emailed, but she must have the receipt in order to complete the transaction.  She has arranged for a CPA to review the budget.  This is a precautionary step and in the best interest of the incoming treasurer and outgoing treasurer.  No problems are expected. Please note that Natalie’s email is [email protected].

Committee Notes:

Volunteer Coordinators will soon have the volunteer sheets to the chairpersons. They ask if you need yours now please contact them directly, Fawn Albert ([email protected]) and Sherry McCauley ([email protected]).  If you have not sent in your volunteer form please do so soon. This is the only means we have of contacting you to help with events.

Fundraisers currently underway are the Ross Flower sales (remember to mention OMS when you shop at Ross’, they will give us a percentage of your sale each time you go).  Book Sox sales are doing well and the Entertainment and City Book orders are coming in.  Please remember the books need to be returned if you are not purchasing any.  The magazine fundraiser will begin October 3rd, help is needed with this event, please contact Lori Stewart ([email protected]) or Cheryl Smith ([email protected]).  This year prizes will be offered as incentives.  Remember to save those Box Tops.  Monies from fundraisers directly help your children.

Student Activities has already set dates for the 6th Grade and 7th/8th Grades Skating Parties.  6th Grade’s will be held October 2nd and 7th/8th Grade will be on October 16th.  Chaperones are needed for both events.  Please remember that the more adult supervision the better the event.  Please contact Linda Seitzinger ([email protected]) or Susan Horwith ([email protected]) if you are able to chaperone.

Newsletter information needs to be to Sherry Devine ([email protected]) by Oct 13th to be included in the 1st marking period report cards.

Cindy Anderson closed the meeting at 10:20 with a reminder that an evening meeting will be held September 16th at 7pm.  A list of last years chairpersons will be available to new chairs to contact if needed.  The next morning meeting will be October 14th at 9am.
