January 2009, PTO MEETING
Administration:
Dr. Troutman announced that the E-Scrape collection has been rescheduled for Saturday January 17th from 8am-2pm.
A request has been made by the 7th Grade teachers to the PTO asking for funds to support an “in-house field trip” by the Franklin Institute. With cost increases related to travel the need for more creative extra curricular events is needed. The 7th Grade teachers have discovered a great in-house educational experience for their students through the Franklin Institute. The PTO provides a field trip budget line for all grades. The request for the fund does not exceed the budget so the request was approved. The problem of costly field trips involving travel is district wide.
Registration for the 2009-2010 school year is underway. Dr. Troutman encourages 8th grade students and parents to contact the school if there are any questions or concerns regarding the 8th grade registration or transition process. The 6th and 7th grade students will begin their course selection soon for next year.
OMS PTO Board Members:
Treasurer, Natalie Ziegenfuss: The budget is up to date. Please remember reimbursement forms are on the website and all forms must include the receipt.
The magazine fundraiser is being revisited to determine if the PTO should continue to run this event. The sales over the last few years have drastically decreased. The event t is becoming almost too costly to make a profit and the time required to run the event is substantial. The Joe Corbi’s fundraiser was well received and will be held again in the spring as well as a Ross’s Flower sale. Please continue to support the fundraising efforts. Without your support the “in-house field trip” for the 7th grade classes and other events for all the grades would not be possible. Thank you!
President, Cindy Anderson: The PTO By-Laws are being revised in order to better accommodate the PTO committees and functions. The updated by-laws will be available to review on the PTO website. If you would like to view a hard copy or have any questions please contact Cindy Anderson at [email protected]. A vote to accept the revised by-laws will be held at the March PTO meeting.
A note to Committee members- if you have student/class winners from a PTO event please send the names to Sherri Devine so they may be recognized in the PTO Newsletter. If incentives are to be used to encourage participation in a PTO event (i.e.: fundraising sales) please use inexpensive incentives such as popcorn or pizza parties. (OMS receives a discount for student activities at a local pizza restaurant, please check with Mrs. Ouly for info.) One last request, in cases where items are to be picked up or delivered to the school please make arrangements for a PTO member to be present and prior arrangements made to deal with items not picked up. It is not the responsibility of school personal to deal with these concerns. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Please encourage incoming 5th grade parents to get involved in the OMS PTO. Representatives will be visiting elementary PTO meetings in the coming months with information about our PTO.
Please check the PTO Newsletter included in student’s report cards for upcoming events for parents and students.

Tricia Jeffery, OMS PTO Secretary
