Prairie House Project begins! I "think" we have decided on a house plan. This is a temporary house for us, or perhaps the small beginning of a bigger "eventual" house. I have been looking at the Wilderness Cabins from Ontario, BC for some time. What attracts me to this company is that I have the choice to either build my house from scatch with their plan, or order the entire house in a package...which comes with everything I would need to bring it to "lock down". Lock-down is where you have the foundation, roof, walls, windows and doors. It IS a house, although is not a fully finished house. Some of the Wilderness Cabins can be brought to lock-down in a few days with the full cabin purchase. This is very appealing to me. I have children and I can't live in a tent or with friends for long, and I can't build a house while living in the city. This house will be built in the hills...and while many house raisings have happened recently in this community, I can't expect for friends and family to help me bring my house to lock-down fully. We will have to pay people to help.
So currently I am trying to decide if we should buy the plans, or the kit. The time of year that we plan to move is
also important. I want to have this house ready before the winter of 2004 hits.
