Greetings!
My family name is "Kang" and "Song-Young" is my first name, or given name.
"Song" is the Korean pronunciation of the chinese character "so-ri" which means: sound. While "Young" is the Korean pronunciation of the chinese character "khil" which means: long time.
My branch of the Kang family tree originates out of Jin-Ju (in the southern part of South Korea, Southwest of Pusan).
My given name appears frequently in the region where my ancestors have lived. "Song" means more essentially: message; and "Young" more essentially means: afar; or long, far, and wide. Therefore, the sum of the two characers, "Song-Young" means: a message that comes from a far place. My grandfather, in naming me, wanted me to become a good man who is like a mesage [message and massage] from heaven.
So, what is most important to me?
The Sun!
by Kang, Song-Young
The sun gives us
what we need to survive:
energy, light, and such...
In fact, were there no sun,
the earth
would have had no birth
The sun pulls the earth,
so the earth does not fly away.
That tasteless ball of helium
very hot, smelling like the burdens it bears;
The sun is very loud!
Exloding about a billion nuclear bombs a day,
The sun shines brightly as it sends photons
to all the universe and universities!
And so we owe
The sun much gratitude;
like that we reserve for our mother.
For everything in and on the earth
Owes its existence and its birth to
The Sun
