An Observation of Police Power

A juvenile enters Central Booking on charges of concealing a dangerous weapon. The police officer in command asked the juvenile, “what’s your name son?” The juvenile responded, “Carl Bakersfield, sir.” The police proceeded with his questioning, “and Carl, what are we doing with this butterfly knife?” Carl at this point looked a tad bit nervous, “I carry it for my own protection and nothing more, It’s a necessity for a last resort, life threatening situation. Can’t be too sure now a days.” The police officer looked very unimpressed, as he hears this reply often, “You know it’s against the law to conceal a martial arts weapon within the city limits?” Carl took a breath of air and responded. “Yes sir, I realize it’s against the law, but when are we willing to allow a law to interfere with our own personal well being?” The police officer became anxious, “You don’t need a weapon, any way, it’s against the law, what if everyone had a weapon, what would society be like?” Carl, who became interested in the conversation replied, “well, think about this, would you want to approach or attack someone you knew had a weapon? I think it would drastically reduce crime, take for instance in the Netherlands, it’s against the law to NOT have a loaded weapon in your house. Crime reports regarding breaking and entering or burglary are dramatically lower in the Netherlands than that of The United States.” The officer realized he wasn't up against an average sixteen-year-old juvenile delinquent and became a bit nervous himself, “Well, you committed a crime, if you feel the Netherlands has better laws, move there.” Carl chuckled, “Can I ask you a simple question?” The police officer, with a hostile expression on his face, replied, “What?” “You’re a police officer, obviously,” The police officer nods, “Why are you allowed to wield that weapon, if it’s against the law?” The police officer replied in a snotty tone, “Because I am a cop!”
Carl noded, “and why do you have the gun?” The police officer became increasingly agitated, “It’s for my protection!” Carl posed a sardonic smile, “Wasn’t that my defense? Because it’s for my protection?” The police officer grunted, “Well, I am a cop!”
Carl replied, “So, being that you’re an officer of the law, you valuing your life is held in higher regard than that of mine, I assume?” The police officer remained silent. “What’s the difference of me having a knife to protect myself in a last resort situation, and you pulling out a gun to protect yourself in a last resort situation?” The officer blurted out, “I am a cop, I have a badge.” Carl smiled, “That still doesn’t answer my question, you have these laws established that I can easily contradict them. I feel this is an injustice.” The police officer became rowdy, “oh shut the hell up, you broke the law, how did the cops find you with the knife anyway, if you don’t pull it out ‘less it’s in a last resort situation?” Carl noded and continued; “I was questioned by the police of why I was standing across the street from the show I was attending. I told him I was waiting for my friend to finish using the bathroom that was across the street from the show. The show house’s bathroom is small, hot and always occupied, and I was waiting for it to be my turn to use this bathroom. The cop laughed and asked to search me. I found this to be absurd, considering I committed no crime. I told the police I invoked and retained my 4th amendment right under the Constitution of the United States of America and they became belligerent and searched me without my consent. That’s how they found the knife.” The police officer said, “Well, you shouldn’t have broken the law.” Carl raisef his voice, “But don't you see that this is absurd? I am not getting any real answers here.” The cop physically restrained him after a moment of resistence “This is unnecessary! What gives you the right?” The cops laughed and took him off to his cell. Another person the cops protected and served.
I wrote this one a while ago, Isn't one of my bests, but it serves a good point.
And Remember kiddies, Your Tax dollars pay for these ridiculous laws
and these oppressive cops~ If you get arrested, you're simply paying them to arrest you.
