“Vocal Warm-Up

Vocal Warm-ups

Age Group/Grade or Setting:

6-12 or other large group

Time Period:

20-30 Minutes

Materials:

None

Objectives:

Students will work on controlled breathing using the diaphragm, relaxation, and vocalizing through specific articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation exercises.

Procedure:

Explain to students the importance of proper centralized breathing techniques using the diaphragm.  Go over the specific steps of centralized breathing and practice them using as a class.  Also, explain the importance of articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation as related to stage work.  And practice such techniques as a class using the following sounds and vocal warm-ups.

Start by saying the clusters slowly and gradually increase speed but remember to observe articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation techniques.

Next practice with the following phrases:

·        Rubbery Baby Buggy bumpers

 

To sit in solemn silence

In a dull dark dock

In a pestilential prison

With a life long lock.

Awaiting the sensation

Of a short sharp shock

From a cheap and chippy chopper

On a big black block.

 

Evaluation Method:

Have the students memorize and recite the final warm-up for content and proper breathing, articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation techniques.
