| Invasive species are plants and animals that are taking over our natural resources of our state by displacing native species and disrupting ecosystems (www.dnr.ni.gov). This si considered a problem because they can alter ecological relationships among native species and can affect ecosystem function, economic value of ecosystems and human health. The cons to this problem is that people are the ones that allow invader species to adapt and thrive in areas that they shouldn't meaning it is completely our fault. However on the flipside, invader species can help an ecosystem by taking out that species or animals that are damaging the ecosystem. The government is trying their best to reduce invader species by putting laws on prohibitting people from putting boats that are infested with zebra mussles into the water. Also, we are starting to study invasive species more closely and coming up with ways to prevent them from destroying ecosystems. This affects the environment by destroying whole ecosystems, species and animals.Without certain animals, more invader species would be able to thrive. A possible solution to this problem is to not introduce new species into a habbitat that they were not designed for. All in all, I really don't have much to say on the subject because I have not had an encounter with these types of invaders but I'm sure it is a problem in other parts of the world. |
