Ben's "Books: They're not just armrests" page.
Here is the obligatory books page. I work at the library, so you'd think me a fake if I didn't read, correct? Thought so. Here is a list of books that I have read or am currently reading over the summer, plus a couple of recommendations. Please send recommendations to me over IM/E-mail. After all, it's not like I have much else to do :p.
Books I've read or am currently reading over the summer: The Great Game: An interesting book detailing the facts and fiction of real espionage (spying). Only for the spy-lovers out there, not recommended otherwise//By Frederick Hitz Einstein's Dreams: There's only one copy at the library, and I started it on a "Book on Tape" and couldn't take it, so I'm putting this one aside until I can get a copy. Books on my "to read" list: Youth: //By J.M Coetzee The Poet: Mystery//Michael Connelly The Firm: //By John Grisham The Winds of War War and Remembrance: //By Herman Wouk This Side of Paradise: //By F. Scott Fitzgerald IM me/e-mail me recommendations please! My Recommendations: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime: A story told inside the mind of an autistic child as he attempts to unravel the mystery behind a murdered dog found in a neighbor's yard. A quasi-mystery that evolves into a family drama, and a very cool book.//By Mark Haddon A Confederacy of Dunces: A very funny yet somewhat sad novel following the life of Ignatius Reilly, a middle-aged man who lives with his mother (while at the same time hating her), and detailing the crazy situations he involves himself in while searching for a job. Ignatius' escapades are very funny to read/envision, and this book has a lot of heart.//By John Kennedy Toole Black Hawk Down: Eventually made into a very good movie, this book details the events that occurred involving Army Rangers and Delta Force (an elite army squadron) in Somalia before and after two black hawk helicopters are shot down. A great read for anyone remotely interested in US military history.//By Mark Bowden The Wheel of Time Series: If you're a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy (of books) and enjoy fantasy/science fiction, this very long series is for you. It should take you a whole summer to complete all of the books, if you read religiously.//By Robert Jordan The DaVinci Code: A stylized thriller following the exploits of a symbologist and his uncovering of a secret society of which DaVinci belonged. It's a mystery/thriller, but should appeal to those who may not like that genre. Definitely a page-turner, so you should finish it in no time.//By Dan Brown
