Ben's "Bands you may not know much about but should" list
If you don't like music, please press the "back" button.  Ok, for the rest of you still here, this section details some bands you might not know much about or didn't pay much attention to.  I will have the band's name, followed by a brief description of the type of music, and the "download-worthy" song (these bands/singers obviously have more than one good song, but I'll list the one that I feel is the most important one to listen to.  Like a lesser-known band I didn't list?  PLEASE e-mail//IM me (attached song-sent song of that band would be nice as well) and I'll add that band to this list.  Enjoy!
Bands you may not know much about but should:

Franz Ferdinand: Hmm, they're hard to describe.  Sort of rock with discoish elements.  Just download this song, you'll see.  D/L worthy song:
Take Me Out

Orchestra Baobab: Popularized by Dave Matthews and Trey Anastasio's trip to Africa on VH1, they're an African band with some latin elements in their music.  Very interesting, good beats.  D/L worthy song:
Utru Horas

Audioslave: Rage Against the Machine-Lead Singer+Chris Cornell of Soundgarden=Audioslave.  Very good rock band, less grungy than Soundgarden, but arguably slightly less "rockin".  Up to you to decide.  D/L worthy song: What you Are. D/L worthy song for the ladies: I am a Highway

Velvet Revolver:  Take Guns and Roses, get rid of that whiny pansy Axl, and add Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, and you get a band with similar sound to STP with some cool Slash guitar soloes and some nice, catchy riffs and choruses.  It's good rock, with great talent and multiple good songs.  D/L worthy song: Slither

Nickel Creek:  New-style bluegrass/country/rock sound, with three distinct voices (2 male, 1 female).  Interesting songs, and very melodic.  Give 'em a listen.  D/L worthy song: This Side

Rufus Wainright: Deserves to be mentioned due to his upcoming performance at Ravinia w/Ben Folds.  Unique voice, and a good songwriter.  Liked Shrek?  His remake of the song "Hallelujah" is on the soundtrack and in the movie.  D/L worthy song: Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk

Apocalyptica:  They are a group of four cellos that play hard rock songs and make it sound really cool.  If you like Metallica, or even if you don't, these covers are really interesting and capture the feel of rock...with cellos.  Strange, but true.  It may make sense to listen to the original song, then the cover to see the similarities and obvious differences.  D/L worthy song: The Unforgiven (Originally by Metallica)

Contributions:
Damien Rice: Irish singer-songwriter with nice lyrics and slower, more melancholy songs.  If you like Rufus Wainright and that genre of music, you'll like Damien Rice.  D/L worthy song:  Cannonball (Submitted by Chloe R.)

The Thorns:  A trio with lots of harmony, lots of acoustic guitar, and a nice, melodic sound.  I swear to god, I didn't steal that from rolling stone, I saw that after I wrote this.  Freaky huh?  D/L worthy song: Blue (Submitted by Jaclyn G.)

The Rosebuds:  Kind of a lite rock group with a somewhat psychedelic sound (keyboard, drums, elec. guitar), at least from the songs I heard.  Pretty good music, definitely worth a listen.  D/L worthy song:
Kicks in the Schoolyard (Submitted by Kristina) (Go to www.therosebuds.com to d/l some songs)
