| As the Summer arrived in 1999, Carolina noticed a huge change within the organization and she had to leave out of town for the Summer. When Carolina arrived, her organization changed so much even her big sister disaffiliated from the organization. So Carolina decided to do the same. Her two best friends that she knew since middle school never spoke to her again. Carolina tried to rush again but she was not accepted into any organizations due to the fact that she was a sister of Kappa Theta. During Fall of 2000, Carolina decided to a part of formal recruitment, she asked her Rho Chi what was the chance of her not receiving a bid from an organization. Her Rho Chi replied everyone usually gets a bid. When pref night arrived, Carolina receives a call at her house from her Rho Chi. The Rho Chi told her that she was not invited back to any preference dinner meaning she would not receive a bid. Carolina was heart broken and felt that she would never be Greek again. During that time Kappa Theta was converted into Alpha Omicron Pi and all traces of Kappa Theta were wiped out. Sometime in October, Carolina heard from her Co-worker Mariel who was a friend of Madelyn and Elizabeth about Omega Beta Phi. She gave Carolinas Madelyns information. At the time Madelyn was working and Isabel picked up the phone, Carolina introduced herself and explained to Isabel what happened to her with Kappa Theta and recruitment. She told Isabel that she wanted to be a member of Omega Beta Phi. The next day, Jose walks late into his Introduction to Education class and sits next to a young lady and a friend from high school. Suddenly he glances at the girls folder and notices that Omega Beta Phi was written all over it. Jose in shock thinking to himself HOW? and remembers that Isabel told him early that day that there was a new member of Omega Beta Phi by the name Carolina. Jose turns to the girl and said you must be Carolina right. Carolina smiles and said, you must be Jose the one who helped create Omega Beta Phi. In addition, Carolinas ex-best friends from Kappa Theta were taking the same course. After class, Carolina and Jose walked back to the yearbook room because Carolina was going to meet Sharon and Isabel for the first time, while they walked Carolina explained her story to Jose. That same night, Sharon, Isabel, Carolina and Jose talked about getting shirts, preparing for the first meeting and finding an adviser for Omega Beta Phi. Sharon suggested why couldnt we have Teresita Perez the Ad coordinator of student media as the Advisor. |

| Teresita Perez was held a very negatice attitude towards Greek life due to the fact that she worked with numerous FIU sorority girls. Sharon and Isabel approached Teresita about the job. They explained to her that Omega Beta Phi would be different and unique. Teresita said she would think about it and get back to them. In the meanwhile, Carolina recruited Elida Arias a former friend from Sunset Senior High School and Beatriz Zahlene another friend that she met at FIU. It was later discovered that both Carolina and Elida went to the same middle school with Sharon. Finally, November 3, 2000 arrived, the first Omega Beta Phi meeting. The women present at that meeting were Teresita Perez, Sharon Caldera, Isabel Garces, Carolina Palacios, Elida Arias, Beatriz Zahlene, Elizabeth Diaz, Monika Soto and Jose Otero. That night, Carolina parents donated 15 Omegas shirts to the sisters and the first ritual was conducted for the its members. Later the ladies swore that they would tackle the odds, remain faithful to Omega Beta Phi and be Sisters Above All, Teresita also agreed to become the first advisor. That following day Carolina decided to arrive late to class, when she arrived she was wearing her Omega Beta Phi jersey. Her former friends sneered and gave her a distasteful look. Carolina and Jose look at each other and knew this was going to be a big change for Greek Life. For the first meetings of Omega Beta Phi were held secretly in Primera Casa building at FIU in the fourth floor classrooms. There is where Dyana Nieto and Kannia Barbot pledged to Omega Beta Phi. Kannia became apart of Omega Beta Phi because she was Madelyn co-worker at her job. In addition, Dyana Nieto was a member of the VISION yearbook staff. There is where Dyana met Sharon, Isabel and Jose for the first time. Dyana was brought into Omega Beta Phi because Sharon was taking a class that semester with her. Sharon told her about Omega Beta Phi and she agreed to join. By this time, Sharon had met with Todd Sullivan, advisor for Greek Affairs. In the meeting, he told Sharon: that it was difficult for local sororities to get accepted into the Panhellenic Council, he suggested for Omega Beta Phi affiliate into another chapter on campus. After that meeting he gave Sharon the opportunity to petition to the Panhellenic Council. After finding out the news, the sisters started creating displays, power point presentations, and meeting with other Greek members. Around that time Omega Beta Phi celebrated its first homecoming with Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. By the time the big day arrived, Omega Beta Phi gave an outstanding presentation and informed the Council that Omega Beta Phi wanted to become a National Sorority. After two weeks of uncertainly the votes were cast and Omega Beta Phi was granted associate members into the council. |
