| Vampirism |
Modern vampires live almost completely hidden from the mortal world. The disruption of the Inquisition was yet another break in the chain of vampiric history, and most modern vampires have difficulty conceiving of unlife without the Sabbat or Camarilla. The rapid expansion of young vampires in the last century resulted in a number of cynical kindred that completely deny the origins of vampiric society, believing that the Antediluvians, if they ever lived, must surely be dead by now. Camarilla Once, vampires walked openly among mortals. They did not flaunt their nature, but they did not hide it either. The Camarilla is the invention of a treaty founded after the Dark Ages that was a result of the Inquisition and Burning Times that destroyed many of the Kindred. The Camarilla is a political and social body to which Brujah, Gangrel, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere and Ventru belong. Formed 600 years ago in Europe, it is based on a system of laws to hide vampiric existence from the eyes of mortals; these laws are known as The Traditions, the system of hiding their existence is called the Masquerade. The Path of Humanity is the basis of the Camarilla, one of the central points where they differ with the Sabbat. Humanity has always spoken of the vampire, or kindred as they call themselves, the corpse risen from its grave possessed of a burning hunger for warm blood. Vampires have walked among humans from prehistoric times and still do. They have fought a great and secret war since the earliest nights of human history. The first murderer Caine, was cursed by God and transformed into a vampire. He was forced to stalk the fringes of civilization, fearfull of the sun and ravenous of blood. Lonely Caine met a mighty witch named Lilith, Adams first wife. Lilith taught Caine how to evoke mystic powers and how to create others of his kind. The offsprings of Caine created the clans. The Fifth Tradition: Hospitality - Honor one another's domain. When thou comest to a foreign city, thou shall present thyself to the one who ruleth there. Without the word of acceptance, thou art nothing. The Sixth Tradition: Destruction - Thou art forbidden to destroy another of thy kind. The right of destruction belongeth only to thine elder. Only the eldest among thee shall call the Blood Hunt. |
