One Down, Seven to Go!
Last night's performance went very well,
considering we had a typhoon the day before and didn't have a final dress
rehearsal and there were a few new orchestra members who were sight reading
the music. All in all it was a good performance and the small crowd of 60
people enjoyed it.
A voice is a delicate and fussy instrument
- well at least mine is. It needs loads of warning up before going on stage.
I don't just mean 20 minutes of vocalizes. Oh no! It takes that plus singing
parts of songs that I know I am using good technique on and work the range
that I'll be singing. Plus, LOTS of water and no perfume! Last night one of
the guys put on after shave while we were getting ready. One sniff and my
throat started to get scratchy - which in turn makes me stress which isn't
good for the voice either. Don't worry, everything went fine with the
singing during the show, but afterwards I knew I had exercised all the
muscles involved with making my voice sing.
Now on to make-up. Omar has become the guys
envy because of his make-up kit and the fact that he can put on make-up and
not look like a girl (thank you Montgomery College). He could be seen
showing the guys what to do and even helping them out by putting on their
make-up for them.
His energy and up-beat attitude is
contagious. His dance partner, Lynn, has told me that he is a crazy man on
stage and she is having lots of fun dancing with him. When he walks onto the
stage he brings up everyone's energy too.
Anyway, tonight is another show and another chance to do it
better than before. More energy, more breath support, more projecting from
the diaphragm.
