Oman Medical Speciality Board Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) was established on 16 June, 1994. It is the highest supervising body of all postgraduate medical training programmes in Oman aimed at providing the Sultanate with Omani medical specialists of the highest standard possible. The Board has representatives from Sultan Qaboos University, the Ministry of Health and the Medical Services of the Sultan's Armed Forces and the Royal Police. Currently there are 123 residents distributed in the thirteen approved specialties; 92 from the Ministry of Health, 31 from Sultan Qaboos University 7 from Armed Forces Hospital and 1 from the Royal Oman Police. The Board liaises with reputable overseas Colleges such as Royal Colleges in U.K. and Australia, as well as other institutions in USA and Canada. Most of the programmes of OMSB have been recognised and accredited by Royal Colleges in U.K. which hold in high esteem the standard of training provided by the Board. Postgraduate activities cover the following specialties: Medicine, Surgery, Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Emergency Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia and Psychiatry. Clinical activities are undertaken by residents attached to OMSB under the guidance and tutelage of Consultants/Specialists in relevant fields both at SQUH and Ministry of Health approved hospitals. Our research programmes are varied and wide depending on Specialty and sub-specialty interests. Residents under the auspices of OMSB are required to undertake in-depth research activities beneficial to the country as part of their training and to prepare them as academic and social leaders in Oman.
