| UPDATED FOR OMC 2 Q:What is the Omaha Magic Circuit? A:The Omaha Magic Circuit (OMC for short) is a 9 week series of Magic: The Gathering tournaments to be held at 3 locations; Krypton Comics, Coliseum Gaming, and Ground Zero Gaming. The series will culminate with the individual tournament winners playing a championship final to be declared the Circuit Champion. Q:When will the OMC begin, and when are the tournaments? A:The OMC begins on Tuesday, September 9th running for 9 consecutive weeks. Krypton Comics will hold tournaments each Monday, Coliseum will tournaments each Tuesday, and Ground Zero will hold tournaments each Thursday. Start times will vary- check with the website or the store for more details. Q:How does one qualify to play in the championship final? A:The winner of each OMC event will receive an invitation, much like a PTQ, to compete in the final championship. The final championship will have no entry fee, and is open only to the 24 winners of the individual events. Q:What formats will be used in the OMC? A:the formats will vary from store to store, week to week. We currently have both limited and constructed events in variousl formats planned. For more details, check the schedule of events. Q:What is the cost to play in an OMC event? A:Entry fees will be determined by the event host. Please check the website or contact the store for more details. Q:So, I'm confused. Does the winner get anything beside the invitation? A:Yes! Each tournament will be run as any regular tournament would, with prize support on behalf of the host store. It's better to think of each event as a normal tournament, with a bonus for you, should you be victorious. Q:Okay. So, what about the OMC championship? What does the winner get? A:Each individual tournament will contribute a portion of EVERY entry fee collected to go into a pool for the final championship. The winner of the championship will receive a mix of product and a cash prize from the collected money, with the rest to be distributed amongst the top 8 players in the championship. In short, the more people who attend our tournaments, the more money into the pool. You, as the players, will make the prize fund. Q:How will the OMC final work? A:The OMC final will take place on Nov. 9th this time round, with a massive one day event to take place at Krypton Comics. The finalists will play a 9 round, swiss format event consisting of (in this order): 3 rounds of Extended, 3 rounds of Draft, and 3 rounds of Standard. After this, a top 8 playoff in standard will be played for the winner. Q:Can I play in tournaments even though I'm already qualified for the OMC Championship? A:Yes! Should an already qualified player win another tournament, the invitation would 'pass down' to the next highest non-qualified finisher. You are welcome and encouraged to take part in as many tournaments as you wish. Remember, and we can't stress this enough, these are regular tournaments with a bonus should you win. All we want, as organizers, is for there to be as many opportunities to play Magic as possible. Q:How can we get in contact with you guys for more information? A:Stay tuned to the website here and feel free to shoot of any questions to [email protected]. Toss on the store name if you have any questions for a paticular store, or feel free to contact us! Q:How did the OMC come to be? A:You, the players, had at various points stressed the idea that such a series would be beneficial for the game to each of the organizers. We put our heads together and created the OMC. Our goal is to create a competitive series that will be challenging but also fun, and to try to create a local championship that will be done in the way that will encourage you, the player, to come give it a try. We want to encourage each and every one of you to play an event that might not be as challenging as, say, a PTQ, but more so than a Pre-release. In short, we're trying to find a middle ground for competitive Magic play. Q:Is it okay if I play at more than 1 store? Is it okay if I play at only 1 store? A:Yes! We are very much encouraging players to try events ant each location, to get an idea of how Magic works in this city and to encourage and promote its growth. However, if you're comfortable playing at 1 specific store, that's fine too. There is no penality for playing at a single or multiple locations. |
