| ARKANSAS GAZETTE, Sun., Sept. 26, 1965 Herbert Proctor Dies at Wynne WYNNE--Herrbert Everett Proctor Sr., age 76, of Wynn, the first Cross County Clerk and a County officeholder for 20 years, died Saturday at a hospital here. Mr. Proctor was elected county cler in 1921. He was elected County sheriff in 1924 and served until 1928. From 1929 to 1940, he was county clerk again. He was appointed a member of the Arkansas Corporation Commission a forerunner of the present day Public Service Commission in 1941, Later he was named state comptroller and served in both offices until 1946. In 1948, Mr. Proctor, returned to Wynne, his hometown, and until 1959,, he operated the Home Furniture and Gift Shop. He was a member of the Wynne Baptist Church and a 32d degree Mason. Survivors include his wife. Mrs. Leaura Lee Bess Proctor; a son Everett Proctor of Wynne; two daughters, Mrs. D.P. Hefner of Mena and Mrs. L.J. Toll Jr. of Little Rock; four brothers, Dan and John Proctor of Wynne, Arthur Proctor of Florida and Phillip Proctor of California and seven grandchildren. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kernodle Funeral Chapel here. Burial will be at Cogbill Cemetery here. |
