VIETNAM CUP1ST round of the Vietnam Cup, and smashing victory of Oympique de Saigon (newly sponsored by Allianz-AGF) over KTC.
1er tour de la Coupe du Vietnam, victoire sans appel de l'Olympique de Saigon sur KTC. Petrolimex-OS (dimanche 19/03): Première défaite de l’année pour l’OS qui s’est incliné 1-0 contre Pétrolimex. Même si plusieurs décisions de l’arbitre furent très contestables, ce qui pose le problème de l’impartialité dans les matches à enjeu, l’OS ne perça pas la défense adverse, et encaissa même un but sur un superbe coup-franc que n’auraient pas désavoué un Platini ou Mihajlhovic des grands soirs. OS-HCM Police (mardi 21/03) : Pour ce troisième match, l’OS avait la désagréable surprise de découvrir que l’arbitre choisit était le même que celui du match précédent. Et bien il fut pire, avantageant assez ouvertement l’équipe de la Police, mais n’est-ce pas l’usage? La partie commençait mal pour l’OS puisque le Blanc se faisait expulser à la 3ème minute. Même s’il avait raison sur l’action, le tarif en football lorsqu’on s’en prend à l’arbitre, c’est le rouge, et donc une équipe diminuée…. Le match aurait pu basculer dans les deux sens, et on nota sur la feuille de match de la Police d’un professionnel de D1 vietnamienne, vous jugerez vous-même… L’OS ne jouera donc pas les demi-finales sur la différence de buts, mais espérons-le en retirera des enseignements importants pour la suite. Quelques regrets resteront, car les demi-finales étaient à notre porté, et de bon niveau général. |

2000 LEAGUE
For this first ever game of the 2000 league, the Olympique had an interesting line-up against the Saigon Koreans, at home: Khanh as GKeeper, Steph, Jean-Marc, Boubou and Laurent as side defenders, Steph as full back and Simon as sweeper. Le Drole, Le Vo, Karsten, Raphael, Olive were in the midfield, Thierry, Patrick and Dang as forward. After 10mn, on a free-kick from Kim, Khanh released the ball in his own net! 0-1 against all odds. 15mn: Kim tries a long range shoot, which goes thhrough Khanh's legs: 0-2! Knocked down by the score and the 45 degrees celsius, the Olympique tried to react but got caught in the tight (and very physical) Korean defense. A few yellow cards were given, the Koreans trying by any means to save the score. On a counter-attack from Kim, the OS right defense got loose and Kim scored a 3rd goal! 30mn. Then, the OS reacted. Thierry received a great pass from Dang and did not miss the target,30mn: 1-3 After being again savagely attacked, David got a free-kick which he aimed and thrusted straight into the Korean's net. 35mn: 2-3 At half-time, the OS re-arranged its defense. 55mn, on a great cross-pass from David, Simon shot a long-rangemissile: 3-3. Kim got a dangerous free-kick which he shot straight into the OS wall. Beautifully served at the far post by David, Thierry held the challenge of a defender and shot over the keeper: 4-3! From then on, Kim went forward and tried to save the day, but after another missed opportunity from Thierry, the referee blew the end on this victorious and heroic score of 4-3. Needless to say, the Koreans were very unhappy for an off-side they thought was not justified, but the tension eased... Three points in the basket, great start for the OS who have 1 week to prepare the venue of Saigon Japanese. Other games: Raiders - Vinataba: game postponed Saigon Saints - Japanese: 4-2 9 April 2000 Olympique de Saigon 5 - Saigon Japanese 2 Splendid record for the Olympique, with its 2nd victory in 2 gamess, therefore clearly leading the league. Goals: Thierry, Olivier, David (3) Passes: Olivier, Simon 16 April 2000 Olympique Saigon - Saigon Saints: 1-0 Composition: Goal: Son Defense: JPR / Simon / Dang / JMB / Schtefan Milieux: Le Vo / Olivier / Stef B / Boubou / Karchten Attaque: Thierry / David / Erwan Resume: Joue sur terrain innonde, la premiere mi temps fut laborieuse, deux ou trois occasions de buts stopees par les flaques ou une defense rugueuse. La deuxieme mi temps fut un peu moins laborieuse car le terrain avait ingurgite un peu d'eau et le vent nous etait favorable. Plusieurs occasions de marquer mais rien de concret jusqu'a un exploit de David qui deborde deux defenseurs et trompe le goal d'un tir croise. A noter un tres bon match dans des conditions pourtant difficiles de notre nouveau gardien Son, impeccable et courageux sur toutes ses sorties comme pourra en attester le front d'un adversaire.
