President's Message

Thanks to all officers and members who served Olympic Peaks Camera Club in 2003.

It is good to belong to a group of willing workers who also share their photography with others. We have two special members who give of their time for the club. Jim Bumgarner moved his family to Richland, Washington last year but is serving as the webmaster for this site. And Dick Hazelton who took over the task of editing and publishing the newsletter  for the club after the death of LeJeune Whitney last August. Thanks to both of these members. Many others deserve thanks and we know who they are. We are all lucky and the group continues to grow as the area grows.

The year 2004 brings the club new opportunities to expose ourselves to the community. The Boys and Girls Clubs new photography program was explained to us at our March 11th meeting by Mr. Art Burke. They have asked for our help in the teaching area. Mr. Burke will keep us informed on the progress. For the first time the Arts In Action have invited us to have a booth in this years event on July 24th and 25th. They will give us a free table and chairs, and some kind of display and or demonstration will work well. Last years attendance was estimated at 15,000. Also each year the Lavender Festival grows and gives us great venues for photography. Last years field trip produced some very nice images.

I encourage all members to participate in competitions, both club and others. This is another valuable source for learning. Try to take part in the clubs field trips and workshops. May 27th Bill Kuss has a workshop on Portraiture, bring tripod and camera OR some favorite clothing or apparel to use as a model. Maybe a crazy or unusual hat.

Search for ways to expand your artistic and technical skills and most importantly, HAVE FUN WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY. I wish each of you a healthy and fun year, with learning and comradship.
