KIWANIS ONE-DAY: Plan to join with members of all the Olympic Peninsula Kiwanis Clubs at the Kiwanis One-Day Project activity,

SATURDAY, April 4,

10 a.m. at the Northwest Kiwanis Camp

There is plenty of work to do including raking, carpentering, trail work, general clean-up, painting, window-washing and much more! so everyone can find something that fits their ability and their stamina.

Bring some basic tools rakes, work gloves, work/painting clothes

and a wheelbarrow if you can cart it along.

PLEASE BRING SOMETHING FOR THE POTLUCK LUNCH!

MORE ON THE CAMP

Construction is going well on the new bathroom/shower facility; hopefully, we might be able to do some painting and installation of mirrors and cabinets during the April 4 Work Day.

Donations of goods, services and money are also still needed to begin construction of bunkhouses to replace existing sleeping quarters. If you can help, please contact us at [email protected] or call 360-732-7222.

Help Wanted: The Northwest Kiwanis Camp is looking for

paramedics or registered nurses interested in part-time or

full-time work between July 24 and Aug. 7. Call 360-732-7222

or e-mail Sharon Sherfick at [email protected]

April is a busy month !!!

BOARD MEETING: Monday, April 6, 7 a.m., Caf Garden

TUNA FISH DRIVE: The annual drive for the Food Bank continues until April 13. Please donate some tuna to this VERY IMPORTANT event (money donations are also welcome). (Note that our last meeting before the drive ends is Thursday, April 9.)

KIDS FISHING DERBY: This years Derby will be on Saturday, April 18, at the Lincoln Park pond. Club members will be needed by 7 a.m. for food prep, earlier than that to help with registration. If you have a food handlers permit, please let Martha Standley know (an official food handler must be there). All the food is provided, and the event will be over by noon.

GARAGE SALE: Our annual clean-out-your closet fundraising event is scheduled early this year Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 25, at the old Wilder Toyota lot on First Street. This year is the Noon Clubs turn to plan the event, but they will need help to set up and price goods in the days before the sale, help sell things on that Saturday and do cleanup afterwards.

We can begin bringing items to the building on Monday, April 20, at about noon. The Noon Club would like all the items to be at the facility by Wednesday, April 22.

Need help transporting stuff? Call Tom Allen, 457-0285.

Remember, all proceeds go to the Northwest Kiwanis Camp.

Other news of Note

CAR SEAT SAFETY: Club members who participated in a car seat safety check in Forks in March reported that they saw a few unsafe situations, not just with babies, but also with young children not using booster seats. So this ongoing safety effort does really pay off for families.

Dave Sue adds the following: "Please ask everyone to talk up the Child Passenger Safety Team, and the need for more technicians in the area. I will be planning a 4-day tech class for this summer and would like to have just local people in the class -- more or less train for our own (Kiwanis Club's) team from Clallam and Jefferson Counties!" What a great idea!

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: Nancy Martin has agreed to take over the chairmanship of this committee next year. She will serve on the selection committee along with Geri and Don Zanon this year. Thanks, Nancy!

GETTING PAID: We received our $150 payment from the Downtown Association for the Halloween picture-taking activity. Thanks to photographer Tim Crowley and his "elves" for their efforts.

WELCOME

To Olympic Kiwanis

Susan (Sue) Bates

Sue is a nurse who has been involved for a while with the Child Passenger Safety Coalition. Among the needs that she sees in the community now are employment, access to health care (including

mental health), hunger and support programs for youth at risk.

At home, Sue enjoys reading, quilting, gardening and baking. She is a

widow and has three adult children: Ted, Carrie and Chris.

(And notice, she joined just in time to celebrate her birthday!)

Thanks to Dave and Carla Sue for introducing Sue to our club!

Youth Clubs

Builders Club

The Club continues to meet (faculty advisor Hilary Fluke reports as many as 8 students at one meeting) and, with a lot of animal lovers among the membership, has taken on a project to collect supplies for the Humane Society. If you want to contribute dog/cat food, kitty litter or anything else that would help the Humane Society take care of their animals, bring it to the meeting on April 8 and Hilary will pick it up.

Key Club (notes from the Noon Club)

The Clallam Volunteer Center kicks off its Volunteering for Patches program at an April 7 meeting and party at the High School. This program is a partnership between the Volunteer Center, Key Club and Camp Fire USA; under the program, students can earn a school letter by performing 145 hours of verifiable volunteer work in one year. For more information visit www.volunteerclallam.org

Key Club member Connor Spurr is collecting American flags that are no longer suitable for display. Once collected, the flags will be retired during a special ceremony. If you have flags that are weathered, faded, frayed, worn, or torn, please call Connor at 360-452-1172. He will be collecting flags until June 1.

Annual Yard Sale

Annual Yard Sale

Annual Yard Sale

Annual Yard Sale

With a large selection of items and low prices it did not take long for the yard salers to dive right in to search for that one bargain they  could not leave the yard sale without In what has to be described as the steal- I mean deal of the century Gary sold his van. He is pictured here holding the hood down while guaranteeing there is something that resembles an engine underneath Geri takes the money of another satisfied customer who found a great deal on some valuable reference books Bikes, barbecues and bird baths were all part of our large assortment of items for sale as we raised hundreds of dollars for the worthy causes that we support throughout the year

Then there are those who seem to have fun no matter what the club project. Maybe he is just happy to have his first cup of coffee but I would bet that all those hours he spends at the community mental  health center might be starting to pay off. Which  is it Don ?
