Mother Pletsch's Painless Sewing with Pretty Pati's Perfect Pattern Primer
by Pati Palmer and Susan Pletsch
This wonderful book has been out for many years now. It contains many tips on how to do every day sewing jobs but with a new slant.  They have a great way of putting  vests together so that there is no need for hand sewing.

All the subjects covered are done with a great deal of humour from sewing room needs, threads, shaping, interfacing and alterations.   I highly recommend this book.

Sew a Beautiful Wedding by Gail Brown and Karen Dillon

Thevery first wedding dress I made was put together with pins in one hand and book in the other.  Has how to choose the most flattering style, colour decisions, fit, fabrics, hems and headpieces.

There is also a section for Mothers of the Bride and Groom.  Well worth buying if you are about to get married or wish to make a wedding dress for yourself or a friend.

Couture the art of fine sewing by Roberta Carr

I bought this book originally because I don't believe you can ever know everything about any subject.  Found it very informative about the higher end details that we tend to over look in our haste to finish an item.

Some sections covered are pressing, bias, piping, gathers, ruffles, sleeves shoulder pads, topstitching, buttonholes.

I have found a great  tip in the sleeves section for easing a sleeve cap in.  I now use this all the time and is worked differently thanthosegenerally done in sewing circles.   You don't put a gathering stitch in up around the site but instead use a small stitch then get larger and largeruntil you reach the top of the sleeve.  Going down the other side froma largestitch getting smaller and smaller.  These small stitches helpto eachis more gently the area that is to be eased.  Another book I highly recommend.

Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing

This book is more like a reference book that has at times been used as a text book.  Very informative if not a little old fashion in some of its approaches.

A great book covering, construction, neckline & collars, waistlines & belts, sleeves, pockets, hems, fastenings, tailoring, sewing for children and the home.

When in doubt about a project I refer to this volume and work from there.
