OLYMPIAKOS NICOSIA FC |
4/02/2007 OLYMPIAKOS - Ayia Napa 2-0 Olympiakos has moved off the bottom of the Cyprus FA League thanks to a 2-0 victory against Ayia Napa in the GSP stadium. It was a totally deserved victory for Olympiakos who's first half performance was excellent. Rotsa started the match with the same 11 that beat AEL last weekend. And the Olympiakos players repaid Rotsa's trust by applying enormous pressure on Ayia Napa from the very first minute. Olympiakos took the lead it deserved on the 12th minute when Pittas send the ball in the box for Panigutti to score his first goal since arriving from Argentina. Olympiakos continued to create chances but was unable to score a second goal mostly due to some great goalkeeping from the former Cyprus international goalkeeper Panayiotou. Even he though, could not prevent a second goal on the 42nd minute of the match. Pittas took advantage of a defensive error, stole the ball and beat Panayiotou to send the home-fans wild. In the second half the Olympiakos players allowed Ayia Napa plenty of ball possession and tried to score a third using counter-attacks. Olympiakos could have scored a third but its players showed lack of concentration whenever faced with a goal-scoring opportunity. On the other hand, Ayia Napa's second-half performance was much better and they did create some chances but Stylianou's excellent saves proved equal to the ones by Panayiotou. Overall it was another great performance by Olympiakos who are now one point behind Ayia Napa. Victory against Aris in the next match might even see Olympiakos out of the relegation zone. Olympiakos played with: Stylianou, Nikolaou, Adinolfi, Nikolaou, Papaioanou, Djenic, Machado (93 Mauris), Spasic (64 Themistokleous), Tiago, Panigutti and Pittas (88 Hristov). |
