OLYMPIAKOS NICOSIA FC |
28/1/2007 OLYMPIAKOS strikes back! A fantastic performance from the Olympiakos players saw them leave Limassol with all three points. It was the second victory of Olympiakos since the beginning of the season but if these kind of displays continue then more victories are bound to follow. Olympiakos had AEL in their half of the pitch for most of the game and took a deserved 2-0 victory. Everything worked like a clock in the Olympiakos team. The two new latin arrivals Panigutti and Adinolfi showed amazing class. Panigutti was creating panic each time he had the ball while his off-the-ball movement was creating plenty of space for Pittas, Tiago and Spasic. He was unlucky not to open his goal-scoring account on his debut for Olympiakos and clearly deserved to be given a penalty when he was brought down in the box by Papas. Adinonlfi was a steady force at the back and not afraid to take an attacking role when space was available. He was also unlucky not to score on the 74th minute as his well taken free-kick hit the cross-bar. Djenic was once again colossal in his defensive midfielder role while Machado's fantastic ball distribution had everybody wondering why the player was ever allowed to leave Appollon. The defensive trio of the two Nikolaou and Papaioannou looked more solid than ever while Goalkeeper Stylianou did well to save AEL's only serious threat in a face-to-face battle with Krassas. Finally, the attacking midfield trio of Tiago, Spasic and Pittas was simply unstoppable. Spasic played his best match since signing for Olympiakos. Quick and clever with the ball, with excellent dribble skills and good ball-control, he was the leader of Olympiakos in attack. His excellent performance was rewarded with his first goal of the season in the 69th minute when the also superb Pittas evated several AEL defenders before unleashing a cross in the box. Spasic found himself at the end of it and coolly sent the ball in the back of the net. Special tribute goes also to Tiago. Tiago's performances are getting better and better since the beginning of the New Year. His goal on the 86th minute sealed the victory for Olympiakos and raised his personal record to two goals and one assist in three matches. Well done to everybody (players, coach and team-management) for this excellent performance. All is needed now is for the team to continue in the same spirit and tempo. |
