OLYMPIAKOS NICOSIA FC |
11/10/2007 Latin passion Jorge Walter Barrios is the new Olympiakos coach. The decision was taken unanimously by the Olympiakos committee. It was a decision which was based on the background of Mr Barrios but also on the amount of Latin players in the team. Mr Barrios is one of the biggest footballing names in Uruguay as he played for his country in several occasions, most notably in the 1986 world cup. As a player he played in Uruguay and in Greece where he was an Olympaikos Pireos player for 4 years. As a coach, he worked for several years in Uruguay and in Greece. The fact that he speaks Greek was a definite plus. Barrios will need to lift Olympiakos from the lower places of the league table. Fortunately, Olympiakos is not detached from the rest of the league but Barrios will need every experience he has in order to learn his players and give them his own style of game before a new series of matches starts in a weeks time. And it will be a difficult series as Olympiakos will be playing for the league and for the cup (against Omonia). But Barrios remains optimistic and counts for help on his assistant coach Roberto Morgade. Morgades presence at the bench means that a new post will need to be found for the fans favorite, Costas Serafim who acted as temporary coach after the end of the Rotsa era. |
