My Mock Trial Portfolio

For the Lord of the Flies Mock Trial, I was assigned the part of defensive lawyer along with a partener. Here is my part of the work, starting with how I thought it all went and followed by links to my questions and concluding statement.

Personal Reflection

Ahhhh... the sweet smell of- GUILTY? Did they say three years in correctional facilities? Wait a minute, am I in the wrong English class?

No, believe it or not, I, Ashley, am telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth in saying that miraculously, despite our adamant attempts to lead them astray, the jury gave a remarkable performance in choosing the just verdict. Although at first I was disappointed with the outcome of my hard work on the trial, and doubtful of my powers of persuasion and argument, I was fully satisfied with the jury's decision , although against my side, that Jack was guilty. Sadly, I was assigned to the defensive side knowing that I truly believed that Jack was responsible, and was perhaps the most averse to him in the class. I feel confident in our presentation, and I think we did the best we could, considering the saying among lawyers, "Bad facts make bad law."

Due to our precise questioning, our witnesses and the other witnesses were forced to answer simply and prove our points. No objections were raised towards us. We were alert during the trial, objecting and creating cross-examination questions that disproved the prosecution as much as possible. I only wish I had had a better idea as to the order of the case and witnesses so that I could've been more prepared for the way the trial ran.

I would like to applaud not only the prosecution for their rightful and well-fought victory, but the jury and judge for their strength of character. I should hope that if Jack was a non-fictional character he would benefit fully from his three years punishment and that I should certainly never have to meet his acquaintance, much less defend his disgraceful, violent acts.
