The White Ribbon Concert - What a Night!

by Jack Gagliardi Programme Manager

The 5th Annual White Ribbon Concert featured some of Canada's best musicians using their talents to help end violence against women. The concert raised over $30,000 for the White Ribbon Campaign and lived up to its reputation of being one of the best and most unique concerts of the year.

The Concert, hosted by the Tea Party, featured performances by Jeff Martin and The Tea Party, SUM 41, Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies, Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, Ian Thornley of Big Wreck, Damhnait Doyle, SNOW and one of Canada's music legends, Bruce Cockburn.

The performances were outstanding with Jeff Martin performing solo, covering Peter Gabriel's, Salsbury Hill and doing a duet with Damhnait covering Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush's ballad Don't Give Up. Some other performances included Steven Page belting out Duran Duran's Rio (a must see) while SUM 41 did a high energy version of How You Remind me by Canada's own Nickelback. Bruce Cockburn and Steven Page did a terrific job doing The Beatles Don't Let Me Down. One of the most entertaining moments of the night was SNOW's fantastic performance of Black Sabbath's War Pigs. Ozzy has got nothing on SNOW. And there were many other memorable performances.

Each year the concert not only entertains but educates as well. Jeff Martin and the Tea Party have made it their goal to use the concert to reach as many people (especially men and boys) about the issue of violence against women. A big thanks to all the performers who volunteered their time and talents to show that thousands of like-minded people can come together to make change and speak out on such an important issue as making the world safer for women and girls.
