The Redemptorist Congregation

"Copiosa apud eum redemptio"
"With Him there is Plentiful Redemption"
(Ps 129/130: 7b and motto St Alphonsus chose for the Redemptorists)

Strong in faith, rejoicing in hope, burning with charity, and persevering in prayer, Redemptorists follow Christ the Redeemer with hearts full of joy; denying themselves and always ready to undertake what is demanding and challenging, they share in the mystery of Christ and proclaim it in Gospel simplicity of life and language, that they may bring to people Plentiful Redemption.(Constitution 20)

The Redemptorists were founded in 1732, at Naples, Italy, by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. He sacrificed a promising career in the legal profession and gave himself to preaching the Good News to the poor. His congregation spread to many parts of the world.

To the Redemptorists was handed over the devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The Holy Father Pope Pius IX asked them to "make Her known to the whole world."
