product that interests you that could be sold by a company of your choice. For example, Levi might want to introduce a
new pair of jeans or a travel agency might want to launch a new package tour to
the Mexican coast.
Write a
press release announcing the product you’ve selected as if it were being
released to the market for the first time.
Write a general press release for the average consumer. Follow the guidelines for writing and
formatting press releases given in the Corporate View Intranet Style
Guide. Spell-check and save your press
release before you print or share it, and remember to proofread.
Activity

High-Performance
Workgroup Project
You have
now written a press release. What does
your team members think of your work?
In a
company, an editorial team is assigned to review each press release. Everyone in a position in a corporation
should be a trained writer. Therefore,
employees can pass their work around the department for editing and feedback.
1.
Form a team with three
or four coworkers. Together, review the
press release you prepared in the Portfolio-Building Project. Be ready for some constructive criticism of
your work. Evaluate and take notes on
the following:
·
Audience: Is the press release appropriate for the
audience?
·
Purpose: Is the purpose of the press release clear to
the reader?
·
Personality: Does the
press release have a factual style and objective tone while conveying a
positive image of the corporation
·
Length: Are the sentences and paragraphs generally
short, as recommended in the Corporate View Style Guide?
2.
Review your notes. Make the changes suggested by your team that
you think will improve your work.
3.
Proofread your press
release and save it, using a new name.
