Sebastian Bach as Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde review 8/6/2000 I have seen Sebastian play the role of J&H many times now. From opening night, through this date he has put his all into his performances! On June 13th, Baz's premiere on the Broadway stage, it was hard to separate Baz from J&H during about 1/2 of the first act. Why? Because I have seen him on the rock stage many times and I was just sitting there thinking "Oh my God... he is really doing this!" Once he got to the song THIS IS THE MOMENT, that was a turning point for me in his performance! I started to watch JEKYLL & HYDE [vs. watching Sebastian Bach as DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE] and I was lost in a daze of admiration for his performance. It was not only his fans, family, and friends cheering --- the entire audience went beserk & Sebastian (the rocker) had to contain himself from responding to the cheers from his new found fans! (the jekkies, the out of towners, and the regular broadway goers...) From performance #1, Sebastian's HYDE has been locked in! It took a few more performances for me to get used to him as Dr. Jekyll though...still, subdued, & quiet... Now, that energy (the calm, English gent) is coming more naturally. He doesn't have to work as hard at it... or he is making it appear easier than it used to be. Sebastian is still the rocker, still the guy who will rock out on stages worldwide when his next CD is released, but he is also an actor. He may not have received his training like anyone else on Broadway, he has had his training on-the-job and is a fast learner! Baz has shown his musical and acting diversity night after night, playing 2 completely different roles and blending them into one character or being. He has soaked in the acting styles of some of the other actors who he shares the stage with night after night. Each time a role is understudied for an evening, Baz's JEKYLL & HYDE change ever-so-slightly and it brings a refreshing change to the performances of all of the actors. He plays off of each Emma, Lucy, John, Sir Danvers, etc... differently. Bottomline... We can no longer only call Sebastian Bach a rock star. He is now an incredible representation of the words "Broadway Star"! Rockin' on... Lisa BAZMANIA... Home of THE BAZ FAN EXCHANGE Fan Club Mailing List
