What's New on TOL ?

One of the most rewarding aspects of maintaining a website is to see that it is being looked at! Even better when emails and guestbook entries are received to show that its content is actually proving of interest and value to visitors.

Almost nine years on from the launch of Thringstone OnLine (in May 1999), the Homepage counter stands at about 20,230 and the Nedstat tracking counter (later 'Webstats4u', now 'Motigo Webstats' - installed December 1999) reveals visitors from every quarter of the globe. Hits have been recorded from the following countries:

The United Kingdom(13,710); The United States (1,023); US Commercial (524); Australia (331); Canada (172); Network (86); New Zealand (82); Germany (59); The Netherlands (47); Spain (38); France (37); Japan (23); Belgium (20); Norway (18); Ireland (18); Italy (15); Philippines (15); Columbia (13); Sweden (13); Turkey (11); Hong Kong (9); US Educational (9); Poland (8); Greece (7); Czech Republic (7); Denmark (7); Hungary (6); Cyprus (6); India (5); Malaysia (5); Switzerland (5); Brazil (4); Finland (4); Malta (4); South Africa (4); Israel (4); Portugal (3); Taiwan (3); Indonesia (2); Barbados (2); Singapore (2); China (2); Lithuania (2); Luxembourg (2); Austria (2); Argentina (1) Nigeria (1); Macau (1); Thailand (1); US Military (1); United Arab Emirates (1); Ukraine (1); Romania (1); Sri Lanka (1); Libya (1); Sri Lanka (1); Saudi Arabia (1); Mexico (1); Slovakia (1); Bahrain (1); Korea (1) and Kuwait (1). Unknown (1820)

However, due to a rather basic index-type navigation system, it is not easy for regular visitors to detect when significant updates and changes have been made to pages within the site. This page is for those friends... so do check it periodically to be alerted to new additions of possible shared interest. Comments and criticism always welcome.

The site is also currently under revision re spell checking and layout.

Thringstone Green, Mayday 2001

Saturday, 26.11.06: Ghost update Account added to the White Lady of Gracedieu page, detailing the paranormal investigative work of Tony Hart. On October 24th 2006, he captured a strange moving image on infrared camera, close by the priory ruins, whilst walking along the sustrans cycle path. A google search will quickly show that interest in the Gracedieu phenomena is growing!

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Survey of Thringstone Graveyard, submitted by John Dickinson, 2005. Eight sections to be uploaded.

Tuesday, 27.12.05: Photograph added to St Andrews Church Choir page, showing Choristers on the occasion of the Reverend Cheverton Shrewsbury's retirement in September 1954

Saturday, 19.11.05: A Bit of Fun... Next time you're in the pub and the topic gets round to local history, try out one or two of these facts...

Saturday, 12.11.05: Pen and Ink drawing by Susan Reddington of Hilda Sykes' home on Whitwick Moor (Dust Hill) added to the 'Bombing of Thringstone' page, from which Mrs Sykes and her husband Fred witnessed the village blitz of October 1940.

Thursday, 27.10.05: New Ghost Photo. The ghosts of Gracedieu seem to be anything but camera-shy - unless of course, there is a more rational explanation for the mysterious digital images that keep on coming. This latest one was taken during a tour of the Priory by the Whitwick Historical Group on Wednesday 28 September 2005, and shows a male figure walking out from underneath the Chapter House arch who no-one saw on the occasion of the visit.

Sunday, 22.05.05: Vicar's Letters Updated to include the farewell letter of the Revd Simon Moult who leaves the parish after six years to take up the post of Community and Mental Health Chaplain for North Warwickshire Primary Care Trust. Doubtless I am one of many, many people in the district who are sad to see Simon leave, and I have come to regard him as a good friend. But of course, all in Thringstone will wish Simon and his family every happiness and success in their new life.

Saturday, 07.05.05: Guide to Saint Andrew's Church Updated to include superb new photographs of stained glass in the nave. The photos were kindly emailed by Mr Keith Sharpe, and include the window to be unveiled in the church this year, to the memory of his wife, Jean - a dedicated and much-loved member of Saint Andrew's Church.
