In February 2003, I took a rather surreal walk in the roof of St Andrews Church, which was the subject of major restoration. The roof void, with its expanse of open rafters, was separated from the building below by a temporary floor installed for the duration of restoration work, and accessed by an aluminium ladder tethered to scaffolding at the rear of the nave. The cheery workmen up there became very used to the companionship of five starlings which had made their way inside through the bell-turret. I took loads of photos with my disposable camera and have posted some of the better ones here
