| 8/10 Hello everyone! Eric here. Well, we unfortunately didn't make it to Warped tour thanks to the evil and powerful Ject. I saw them with Alex from Nobody Famous and I must say minus Jesse Iden, they still are quite good. They put on a rocking show, so kudos to Ject. Next matter of business. Myles and Blake are away at camp (for some fun reason) and I'm here in Florida all alone, and needless to say it gets boring, so i brought over a few guitarists to my house just to jam, such people as Jesse Iden and Jonathan Abrahmson. It was fun because the rest of Oliver is away. (sob) But Myles comes home tomorrorw and we'll be able to do things with music and what not. Also, does anybody like the new title page? If anybody doesn't like it, tell me, and i'll put it back. I personally like it. -Eric 6/14 Well, this year has been a wild ride for Oliver, and an important one. From recording our first demo to playing some shows to making this amazing website, we had fun and will pick up where we left off in the fall. Thanks for supporting us and making the year worthwhile! By the way, we played that Alligator Alley show with Hagus on May 25th. It was fun to play for our funktastic heroes; they even gave us permission to cover Doug Funyon, which we totally botched onstage. Also, go to the photos section for a big new batch of photos from JCC BOTB, Harry Musika, Alligator Alley, and sitting on a couch. 5/21 It's Myles. Well, we've been exchanging some conversation with the guy from Alligator Alley, and he wants us to play with Hagus Magagus and Jack Barnes on Wednesday the 25th. It isn't yet certain, but it's very probable. Be there at 9, bring everyone you can even if they don't know us. Support us! 5/12 Hey guys, Eric again, updating this thing is kind of fun actually. Well, what I have come to tell you is we have some very great gig oppurtunities, I contancted the brothaman at Alligator alley, and he is a very nice guy. He said he will book us a show on Tuesday for a date. He also said we wil be play for the ever funktastic Hagus Magagus, that should be amazing. Also, an art museum contacted me via MySpace, and asked us to play at their galley, they want us to play funk, because they said it was a funkastical galley, and wild funk is what they want. So we will bring in the noise, and the funk. So guys, keep checking the site for more gig information, and hope to see you at a show or two. Or three. Eric 5/5 Ok everybody, Eric here, I know I haven't updated in a long time, but here i am. Alright, here's the poop everybody, Warped tour is coming! We want to play at warped tour! Gaaah. So, I so gracefully entered us into the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 9. Free Tibet is up there, and we do have a profile now. Also, Purevolume, MySpace, The Volume Online is now featuring us, so the rocking of Oliver can be heard. So, the online voting for the battle of thebands 9 begins in a few weeks, so please, with all of our hearts, vote for Oliver as many times as you can, for we are three noble peasants who just want to rock. You can see our profile and vote for us at www.battleofthebands.com, search for Oliver. Also, I believe if you type /oliver after the URL it might work, but I'm not sure. SO, there's the poop, vote for us, we want to go to Warped Tour, dammit! \5/1 Wow, it's been a while. The JCC battle was fun. We played, had fun, sold a lot of merch, got our name out there, chilled, listened to some other bands, you know... the works. We still have plenty of t-shirts and demos left, so if you want one, e-mail us ([email protected]), tell us in person, or post your desire on the guestbook. Harry Musika was also a success. It was the event formerly known as Novapalooza, but this year it was dedicated to the late U-School student Harry Narkes. All funds went to the Harry Narkes Scholarship Foundation. There were a bouncehouse, a rock-climbing wall, a dunktank, and a fair amount of people. Other totally tubular bands played, like Nobody Famous, Because of Dee, Kai Kravit's solo acoustic project, Jarrod Pines's new band Offshore, and Eric Weiss's new band (whom I especially liked) The Shim. We put up pictures from both events on our photos page, and more are to come. So what does the future hold for Oliver? Practices, some gigs hopefully at bigger venues like The Factory and Alligator Alley, probably a new website layout as soon as we stop being so lazy, and some new songs. Untile next time, Myles 4/8 You: So are you getting pumped for the battle? Me: Of course! We're psyched. You: What time should I get there. Me: Get there at 11:30. You: 11:30? Me: That's when the doors open, and we start promptly soon after. I wouldn't want you to be late to our perfomance. That would be a a horrific tragedy. You: Yeah. 11:30 it is. What should I bring? Me: Bring $10 to get in, it goes to charity. Bring some money for food, and of course, bring some money for an Oliver t-shirt and an Oliver demo CD. You: Hmm. Me: Yeah. You: [Starts to whistle]... Do you ever get the feeling that we're being watched, like someone can hear what we're saying right now? Me: Impossible. Yeah, t-shirts are here, the demos are done, and the battle's gonna rock! See you at 11:30 on Sunday. 4/4 Yet another schedule change for the Battle. The fine young men of Azure Sky contacted me (specifically Marc, the fine young guitarist) about possibly switching spots with them, because they had a scheduling conflict and their bassist couldn't be there in time for the opening spot. After nobody else stepped up to the plate and agreed to switch, we obliged, being the super-nice guys we are. Now we're the opener, so the only change is 12:00 - 12:30 - Oliver 12:30 - 1:00 - Azure Sky Now you have to be there even earlier. Rise and shine, you lazy scallywags! 3/30 There has been much updating and changes to the BOTB schedule, but here is the final one: 12:00 - 12:30 - Azure Sky 12:30 - 1:00 - Oliver 1:00 - 1:30 - Nobody Famous 1:30 - 2:00 - Aurora 2:00 - 2:30 - A Fragile Line 2:30 - 3:00 - Out of Ashes 3:00 - 3:30 - Last Year's Heroes 3:30 - 4:00 - Lithium 4:00 - 4:30 - Ject 4:30 - 5:00 - Unwanted Superheroes 5:30 - 6:00 - All My Heroes 5:00 - 5:30 - Upper Class Trash 6:00 - 6:30 - Fallen From the Sky 6:30 - 7:00 - Madelyn 7:00 - 7:30 - Carter Beats the Devil 7:30 - 8:00 - Closing (Raffle, Winners, Prizes, Announcements) We're up bright and early, so you'd better not sleep in. What else is there to do on a Sunday morning anyway? Judging from the school we go to, you're not going to be in church. See you there, bring $10 to get in and another $5 for an Oliver t-shirt, $1 for an Oliver button, and $3 for a demo! 3/30 Well, it's today. Weird, I've updated once since this website was up. This feels nice. Blake isn't here for the practice today. Sad. But anyway, Becca and her friend from camp are here to rock out with us. Well, I have enjoyed Free Tibet, the song we recorded for our demo. -eric ps. hope to update in a year 3/26 Long day at the office. Blake and Eric arrived at Myles's house around 1:00 in the afternoon, and they slaved tirelessly until about 11:00 at night with occasional taquito and soda breaks to bring you an awesome recorded version of Free Tibet! The last time anyone heard this song, none of it was the same and it had no vocals or crazy mountain lion screams. Now it has both! Get on over to our Mypace or our Purevolume and listen to that shiz! We have buttons ordered and t-shirts on the way so get yourselves to the battle of the bands on the 10th! 3/5/03 Sorry about the recent lack of updates. My bad. There is some important stuff to say, and some unimportant. Important: Well, the Adam stint is over. It has been. It just didn't work for a number of reasons (and don't worry, he wanted out too, so we didn't hurt anyone's feelings), so we're rocking it out threefold again. Also, Eric and I got some work done on the demo, so expect it soon enough. Next, we are working hard on the JCC show, practicing and what not. Our "merchandising managers," Valerie P. and Rebecca A., are on the job making sure we have plenty of t-shirts, buttons, trinkets and what-not to sell at our booth. Unimportant: Not much, and you? Ummmm... I bought two pairs of jeans, but they don't fit that well. Oh, and American Dad isn't as good as Family Guy. Peace, Myles. 2/16/05 Newest guestbook is UP. Lyrics will be up soon. New (working) pictures will be up as soon as this computer stops sucking. Everyone, remember David Posnack JCC on April 10th. $12 at the door, featuring Oliver, Nobody Famous, Ject, Lithium, Freemartin, and more. Eric's drum mics are IN. We will officially begin recording sessions for the demo NEXT WEEK. With Blake in Italy, Eric and I will work on our respective drum and guitar tracks. Be (one of) the first to sign the new guestbook! 2/9/05 I see we've filled up yet another guestbook. Be patient, I'll make a new one. That might take a day or two, though. 2/9/05 Weeeeeeee. Happy February. This one is big: Mark the date. April 10 at the David Posnack JCC is the annual JCC Battle of the Bands for all those fine young Jewish bands, including your beloved Oliver. Big. Really big. Come. Take Annie and buy her a birthday present before you go (April 10th is her birthday). We practiced today, and it was good. We played a mean Ching Chang Chung, complete with sitar and koto effects on the keyboard. And check out the counter on the right on this page (excuse it's pink-and-yellowness, the thingy isn't working and won't let me change the colors).. Turns out we actually are more popular than Spartan Youth. We just didn't know which page to put the counter on for maximum number of hits. So now we have more hits than the semi-imaginary ska band. Sign our guestbook, please. 1/26/05 Two big news flashes. First: we have been searching for a full-time singer for years, and our search is over. This whole time, he had been right under our noses (well, not the whole time.... he only stopped growing sometime last year. Before that he was like our height, or level to our noses.) Everyone give a warm welcome to Adam Peck, formerly (and currently, but now he is both) the lead singer of skatastic Spartan Youth. *Applause* His deep, laid back voice will give our music a deep and laid back element. And it will also give us more vocals, considering he'll be the singer. We hope he can also play some keyboards. Hooray. That means that our songs will be revised and vocal parts will be added. We will add a lyrics link on the right (we already have some lyrics, written by me, Myles... and I'll put them up eventually). His info will be up on the site shortly. Next: Yesterday was Eric's birthday. What was his present, you ask? Drum mics. This means our demo recording sessions are itching to be had, but first we need to work out the songs with Adam-san. Oh, and sign the guestbook. 1/22/05 Most impotantly: Sign the guestbook. Even if you already have. It keeps our self-esteem up. Next-most importantly... say goodbye to the old Free Tibet. We added a cool fast part complete with (Ghasp!) vocal parts. That's pretty much it for now. Sign. 1/14/05 I don't know when this happened, but I checked our purevolume site, and, lo and behold, we have music up. I think Eric probably put it on. Thanks, Eric. It is a rough instrumental cut of Holy Crap (formerly known as The Song With the Explosion thingy) that we recorded a few weeks ago. Excuse some minor screw-ups and the overdose of bass, but we recorded it to test a method. Our February demo will have better playing, sound, etc. Look forward to it, but in the mean time... www.purevolume.com/oliver 1/12/05 (I am Myles.) Hi. Eric is getting drum mics for his birthday. That means expect recorded material in February. We may have something big in the works regarding a singer, but it is not official yet. Also, my producing career begins Sunday, when I the men of Nobody Famous take the fateful steps into my home studio. I plan to call it Myles's Bedroom Studios. Or just Myles's Bedroom. Hopefully, the final product will require them to change their name from Nobody Famous to Famous People. Fare thee well, and sign thee our guestbook (except you anonymous purevolume.com purist). 12/31/04 Hey Guys. Happy new year. We just had a practice today, it was fun. Also, the lovely Jerri was there, she added some inspiration to our practice, also, we recorded a great version of Holy Crap, it sounds amazing, because we just recieved a whole bunch of great mic equipment. -Eric 12/14/04 right we are really getting a lot more gig opportunities now and we dont know what to do because we need lyrics but we are trying! -Blake 12/12/04 Okay, I've got it figured out. If you want to sign the guestbook, sign the one with the other links. To view old ones, click on the other guestbook link. Use it well. 12/12/04 P.S. Do you like the new layout? 12/12/04 Good and bad news, people. The good news is that we filled up our guestbook. That means you like us. The bad news is that we filled up our guestbook. That means nobody can sign now. We will put our heads together and figure something out; we're semi-bright individuals. Until then, be patient. -Myles 12/6/04 Grosby's party was cool... we played around 14 songs, got to test the new PA (it worked), and there was no shortage of soaking wet girls. Apparently somebody videotaped us, maybe I'll see it soon, and if it's good, maybe I'll put some of it on here. People I hadn't seen in a while were there- Zach Roberts, Zach Tartar, J.J., and people I don't get to see often because they bide their time in that miserable middle school building were there too. Sure, people were tired of music by the time we started; sure we lost two borrowed mic bags and messed up two borrowed mic stands; sure Eric broke some sticks; sure Blake broke a string; sure there was nowhere to put the Oliver banner; sure everyone used the mics like they owned them; sure our set erupted into total chaos at the end, but all in all, it was a groovy time. Out late partying, free pizza, rockin' some tunes, listening to NF, can't complain. Eric signed us up for this big battle of the bands in Boynton, but alas, Blake's in Italy that week. Samantha Lang may have a party and we may play. Adam Peck may have a party and we may play. Even I may have a party soon and we may play. PLEASE SIGN OUR GUESTBOOK. I'm out- Myles. 11/26/04 Yeah... so I've been really busy/lazy lately (hence the lack of updates). Grosby's party is OFFICIALLY Saturday, December 4th 2004. I don't think it's still a Halloween party, but I think everyone should wear their costumes anyways. I probably will. A lot has happened since my last update in October. GWB was reelected. The Democrats became a third party (The Republican Party is the first two). Yasir Arafat died. The Indiana Pacers went mad. Eric funkified his drumset with another floor tom, a china, and chimes. Blake is talkin' business with the fine folks at MAE about trading his Warwick thundermachine for a Fender Jazz Bass or a Music Man. Myles is talking to this kid he knows about buying a PA system. Some dudes died in a desert. Ken Jennings is nearing $2.5 mil on Jeopardy. Eric and some other individuals created a ska band called Spartan Youth. ANYHOO, sign our guestbook please, and go to the party of the Groz. Thanks-Myles 10/24/04 Hi. It looks like Grosby's party has been postponed yet again to 2009, or so it seems. Maybe in December. 10/10/04 Sorry about the recent lack of updates. Lots of news: 1. We never announced the fact that we were playing Jess (Insert last name here)'s party, but that's irrelevant now as it happened yesterday. It was cool- Eric got to use her dad's awesome drumset. Nobody Famous played too, they punked it out. The six of us did quite a bit of instrument swapping and band member swapping, playing Hagus Magagus covers and what not. 2. Nobody Famous's PIS show happened. I didn't see it, though. Hopefully you did. They were in the local section of the Sun-Sentinel last week. 3. Big news- Grosby's Halloween party has been postponed to November 6th. IT IS STILL A HALLOWEEN PARTY. Wear costumes, eat candy corn, toilet paper our drumset, whatever. Everyone go. 9/29/04 I heard that the almighty Sun-Sentinel is going to cover the PIS show on Friday. Go see it. By the way, the Incubus concert last night was as cool as ice. Myles. 9/22/04 Myles here, just reporting that there's not much to report. As always, we're working hard to make music (and make it well). Every Saturday at 1 pm, if you feel a slight tingle it's our new material's awesome rays traveling around South Florida. Coming soon: Merchandise page, Good Bands Page, and Steve Buscemi Shrine. Go see Nobody Famous at Pompano Indoor Skatepark on October 1st. Unfortunately, I will be rocking my Grandma's birthday party in New York so I won't be able to make it. Go in my honor. Ppreciate it. Myles. 9/13/04 Hey guys, our arch nemesis band(although we are good friends) is playing pis on october 1st. Those of you who are Oliver fans, do not see them at pis. See them at the halloween party, which we just made official, with us! Oliver. Um...also, I now have access to drum mics! So now, we can record, once Myles stops being a downer. Also, we have to make names for our songs, we are doing that soon, also, um.....sign the guestbook, we need more guests, guests are good. Oh! I almost forgot, Kevin Smith signed a deal to make Clerks 2, and I believe Tarantino signed a deal to make a Pulp Fiction prequel, although that has absolutely nothing to do with the band, I just wanted to say that this website is yes, to infom and provide you with the ever lasting, well produced Oliver, but also to provide you with your long awaited movie news. Eric is leaving now. Goodbye. 9/11/04 ahhm...moop! -blake 9/11/04 Time for clarifications: 1. Our name is "Oliver," not "Oliver!" I added an exclamation up there ^ to display a sense of enthusiasm, but I guess that was a bad idea, because everyone is spelling it with an exclamation mark (Alex, especially you). Sure, exclamation points are cool, but they are creative cliches and they create all sorts of identity crises. I have hence removed the exclamation point from the title of the page. 2. We did not purposely neglect to put pictures of Eric up. There should be four pictures of Blake, two of Myles, and two of Eric, but one of Myles and both of Eric are not working. We will keep trying. 3. Please keep the guestbook G-rated. Our moms see this site. Thanks, Myles 9/11/04 Hey dudes, it's Eric, sorry we have not updated in a while, um...right now, i am listening to myles record over the drums (on guitar, of course) for "Hello There" It is coming out great. Ok, I got to go record again. Goodbye. 9/6/04 Congratulations, Blake, I knew you had it in you. Umm, and, uh, I see you've changed the backgrounds. Don't do that. Please. I liked them how they were. And don't make new pages without running it by the other 2/3s of the band. PHOTOS ARE UP! Also, if you have any suggestions or booking info you can reach the band at [email protected], thanks. 9/5/04 Hey, it's Blake here. We made a form to this really wierd oriental song and i hope we can record it soon. We are gonna add an audio page to the site soon so stay alert. It took me forever to figure out how to edit the site so give us your money. Were in it for the music, man! Peace Out 9/4/04 Hey, it's Myles rockin' Hurricane Frances. I have a former names page up to pay tribute to our thousands of past monikers. Keep in mind that those are only the ones I could remember as of last night. When I remember more, I'll put them. Sign our guestbook! Pictures are coming soon. 9/3/04 Hey, it's Myles. The individual bios, band bio, and gigs are up. I worked really hard on the band bio, so read it. Here's the deal with the T-Shirts, people. Eric is getting a t-shirt maker and Kinko's is involved somehow, so if you want an Oliver T-shirt, let us know on our guestbook and tell us the size or, since the only people who would want a T-shirt know us anyways, let us know when you see us. 9/3/04 Hello out there in T.V. land! This is Eric, the drummer. just saying that the homepage is looking good. Actually, the gigs we have about to be lined up were surprisingly NOT CANCELLED. So, keep up with the gig page, many more will be lined up. it will be cool. Also, we have the Oliver! Tee shirt now, each shirt is 10 dollars, and you can get them at our shows, so keep in touch. Eric is OUT! 9/2/04 Hi. Myles here, guitarist from Oliver. I decided to start this website because technology is the future and all, so a band can't get far these days without one of these thingies. I am also terribly bored when I am alone, so this will give me something to do. Make yourself at home. |
