FRANK
WILLIAMS was
born in London, 1931, and has been acting since the late 1950's. Early in his
career he specialised in playing soldiers, in films such as 'The
Shield of Faith' and 'The
Square Peg', before working his way up
the ranks to Captain Pocket in the popular TV series 'The
Army Game' in
1959. He played this part until 1961, and continued acting in films and
television throughout the 1960's, until he began work on the show he is perhaps
best known for. In 1969, Frank starred as The Vicar in 'Dad's
Army', a role that he would continue to
play in all subsequent seasons of the show, as well as the radio series, the
feature film in 1971 and stage tour in 1975.
Since then, Frank has appeared in programmes such as 'Hi-De-Hi', 'Bergerac', 'Monty Python's Flying Circus' and has showed his versatility on stage in productions such as 'Otherwise Engaged' in 1977, 'Stage Struck' in 1980 and 'The Winslow Boy' in 1982, all in the English Theatre in Vienna. He appeared as Charles the Bishop throughout all 4 seasons of 'You Rang, M'Lord?' between 1990 and 1993, and still continues to act in his 70's.
In 2002, Frank wrote his autobiography 'Vicar to Dad's Army', which is packed with fond memories of his 'Dad's Army' co-stars and many fascinating anecdotes from his life and career.
