"The art of ushering"
by Lianne Olive Hennig
Tearing tickets night by night,
Keeping conversation light.
Ushering up and down the stairs,
Never caught all unawares…
Smile politely to the patrons,
Never laugh at waddling matrons,
Chin up when the going’s rough ~
Kids must know we can be tough!
Adults, too, but let’s be subtle;
We don’t want to have to scuttle.
Usher in and usher out.
Tell the patrons not to shout.
Mathematics soon will prove
Who has been out on the move.
Theatre’s out, so let’s go in.
Check the exits, fill the bin,
Hide the lollies with some knack ~
They might see and want them back!
Quickly change, switch off the light:
Finished, for another night…
