| Caidee was born on 28th February, 2002. She was diagnosed with ASA at 4 days old with an ammonia level of 480. Her symptoms were poor feeding, vomiting, lethargy, and drowsiness. She remained in hospital for 2 weeks and was discharged on oral arginine and was fully breastfed.
For her first year of life, Caidee was well. There were no high ammonia episodes or illnesses to speak of. She did reach her milestones a bit later than others and feeding solids was a huge problem. She refused to eat solids until 10 months and even then it was a huge struggle. Caidees second year of life was not good. She was frequently in hospital with high ammonia (ranging from 100 to 315). Sometimes it was because she had a virus, other times we had no idea why her ammonia was up. There was a period of 3 months where her ammonia would rise twice a week for no apparent reason. In June of 2003 Caidee had 3 seizures within 12 hours. Her temperature was fine and her ammonia level was okay, so we are not sure of the cause. She began on Phenobarbitone and is still on it now. Caidee is now 3 and a half. She began walking at 2 and a half and is still very unsteady on her feet. She is still not talking, although her receptive language is quite good. She has a global developmental delay and is attending several special needs groups, which she loves. Caidee had her liver transplant on July 11, 2005. She is doing well and we will update her info as she progresses. Caidee has had a very tough life so far, but she continues to smile and laught every day. She is our little angel, and I think you will agree that she is very cute indeed! |
