| One-to-one outings | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By far, the most important aspect of Best Buddies is the one-to-one outing, when just you and your Buddy spend time together. What you choose to do will depend largely upon the types of activities that the two of you enjoy doing together. Best Buddies emphasizes building a friendship; one of the best ways for you to do this is just by including your Buddy in your normal activities. It is also important for you to realize that spending time with your Buddy does not mean having to spend money. In planning one-to-one activities together, you should take cost into consideration and plan according to what you both can afford. Try to be creative with your one-to-one activities with your Buddy. |

| The Starfish One day, there was a young man walking down a deserted beach just before dawn. In the distance, he saw a frail man. As he approached the old man, he saw the old man picking up stranded starfish from the sand and throwing them back into the sea. The young man gazed in wonder as the old man again and again threw the small starfish from the sand to the water.The young man asked him, Why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time? The old man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. But there must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish, exclaimed the young man. How can your effort make any difference? The old man looked down at the small starfish in his hand and as he threw it to safety in the sea said, It makes a difference to this one. |
