French Club
A simple one club forcing system in common use in France and other parts of the world.
One club is forcing and promises at least a doubleton club. There are two ranges:
13 - 17 points. Denies a five card major suit or a four card diamond suit (exception: five spades with four or five clubs and 13 - 15 points).
With 13 - 15 points, minimum rebid is made, with priority given to a major suit bid. With 16 - 17 points over a response of, say, 1 heart, the opener jumps to two no trump, three clubs, or three hearts. (This does not deny holding four cards in the unbid major).
18 - 23 points. Promises at least three clubs, and may have an outside five card suit in which a jump will be made. If the response is one diamond, this range is shown by a rebid of two diamonds or anything higher.
After a positive response, two diamonds is forcing and semi-conventional: it may be made as a waiting bid with a three card diamond suit.
