Imberlach (Tante Ida’s honey
nut candy)
3 cups matzo farfel
1 1/3 cup honey
¼ cup sweet red wine
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup chopped nuts
½ tsp ginger
Heat honey, wine, and sugar in a medium sized pot.
Cook on low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add chopped nuts, matzo farfel and ginger.
Continue cooking and stirring until mixture becomes
golden brown.
Pour onto a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Wet the outside of a drinking glass with water.
Roll the Imberlach to ¼ inch thickness.
Allow to cool, then cut into diamond shapes with a
sharp knife.
We used to eat this after Shabbat dinner.
It is very much like peanut brittle.
