Anchor brand tins c1920 - 1930.
Anchor brand was t/m registered to: G. Wood, Son & Co Ltd, of Adelaide, in 1884.
The business was commenced in 1854 by Gilbert Wood, a Chief Petty Officer who left his occupation with the sea to open his first provision store.
Over the years to follow, the business launched into wholesale and manufacturing. The companies factory and offices were on North Tce, Adelaide. Foodstuffs were manufactured and packed, in addition to tea and coffee blending.
Wood also had factories in Pt. Adelaide; Fremantle and Kalgoorlie, Western Australia; Broken Hill, New South Wales; London, Eng. |

The company registered and used the following trade marks: Anchor 1884; Terai tea 1893; Tiger brand tea, coffee, honey, spices, etc, 1894; Viking tea, coffee, baking powder, etc, 1896; Defiance jams, spices, coffee essence, etc, 1897, Moa rolled oats 1899; and Nectar coffee 1904. Business continued until the early 1990s. |
