Fragile old A.M. Bickford& Sons painted sign on steel. c1895
A delightful an extremely rare surviving old advertising sign.
The company was originally founded by William Bickford in Hindley Street in the early 1840s.
After his unexpected death in 1850, William's widow Ann Margaret Bickford took charge of the blossoming business, which later concentrated on manufacturing for the wholesale drug trade.
Sons William and Harry Bickford joined their mother in business.
After her retirement in 1872, the business commenced to trade in the style of A.M. Bickford & Sons.
If not in such ordinary condition this old sign would have a very high value. |
