| Sounds of the Unsigned - Various Artists Yep, that's what it's called and there's a reason for the lack of contracts coming these band's ways. The album features some newcomers to the Warwickshire music scene and some well established bands like Sheeva, TWR and antihero but also squeezing their way in are some new names like Lexx, Aniseed and Dave Parker. The album wreaks of amateurs trying to up themselves by placing them next to professional names like Antihero. The result is an album that roller coasters with songs that go from pleasant to the inaudible. This cannot be totally blamed on the bands themselves but the appalling production accredited to David Lu that makes the bands sound like they're playing in little tin boxes at times before suddenly clearing up and losing the continuity of the song. Special mention on this album should go to Lexx whose singer has the nicest voice I've heard in a while and their songs were well put together despite the lack of a drummer. Newcomers Aniseed did little to impress with Matthew Boys' horriffic singing voice and Dave Parker's Overflow sounds overly indulgent and he should try alligning the mood of the "chords" he plays with the whinings of his voice box. Worth four quid? It's got a nice picture on it.. Go buy any stuff by Antihero, Sheeva, TWR or Lexx but leave your barge poles at home, the other racket ain't worth touching. |

| daft punk - discovery Daft Punk's new album "discovery" and not "disco" as some HMV posiitoned labels would have us believe is the second installment from those French Gods of House that's kinda Techno, following their internationally acclaimed debut album "homework." "Discovery" really begins with track two after the main stream Ibiza summer hit "one more time". The album takes an "up yours" approach to modern music with electrified guitar riffs so ridiculously ellaborate it wants to make you laugh out loud. The album does have some real gems on it that match up to the quality of da-funk and around the world and it is well worth a try if you found "homework" right up your street. Bon Nuit! |
