Athletic Union Sports Ball
Annual highlight of the AU's social calendar featuring guest speakers and the presentation of various awards to disevering students, usually held in the Cutlers Hall, Sheffield.
The awards themselves consist of any of the presentations of any thropies the players have won plus the AU's own awards:
Club members are nominated for these awards by the clubs committee, but seeing as how any clubs committee is made up of team players, the awards tend to reflect this.
Club colours: oddly enough proberbley the hardest award to get, it's given for achievements and services to a AU club (not team) so you have to be a) not good enough for matches and b) still doing something impressive to a good quality player
Half- colours: awarded for playing regularly for a team
Full- colours: used to be for being in a successful team, now you just have to play for a first team
Half-blue: awarded for regional representational honours, or winning a majopr thropy
Full-blue: awarded for natioanal or international representative honours.
Guest Speakers
In 2001 Simon Archer was the guest speaker, with a poorly knee and a Olympic Bronze medal. He didn't stop long after the meal, and still hasn't given Toni and Rachael the coaching session he promised them...
In 1999 Dermot Reeves was the guest speaker, he played a guitar, got very drunk and was last seen walking towards his hotel with a posse from the ladies hockey team. I do know what happened next, but out of respect for a great speaker thats between him, 10 hockey players and everyone else they've told.
