From Bolan to the Pistols, the seventies saw many changes. Joining KEGS in 1971 was a step back in time with John Gover and his merry band of gentleman teachers (Charlton, Illingworth et al) and their 1940's values, we were indeed in a time capsule. We left in 1978, the school on the verge of becoming a comprehensive, a boys school no more (thank god some may say).
The picture below is taken from the 1969 book published to mark the history of the school (and which we were pursuaded to buy when we started in 1971). Many of the faces therefore will be familiar; note the (very) young Stephen Walker on the back row!
