John Henry Bartholomew's mother was
Maria Elizabeth Budesheim. John Henry Bartholomew was adopted by a man (perhaps his uncle) Simodon, whith whom he learned the printers trade in Marburg from 1769-1775. He returned to the Hesse Castle the folowing year and is said to have been forced into that portion of the Hessian Army, which was that year hired by the English to subdue her American colonies..  He is said to have landed with the army in Philadelphia 10-22-1776 to have soon joined the American Army, and to have settled in 1778 in Upper Mt. Bethel, Northampton, CO. Pa....where he m. 12-8-1778 Catherine Wideman. She died. He married before 1800 Mrs. Elizabeth Peck. He was also at one time m. to a Barbara Happell.
