HINTS - HOW TO COOK HUSBANDS

A good many husbands are spoiled by mismanagement in cooking and so are not tender and good. Some women go about it as though their husbands were bladders, and blow them up. Others keep theirs in hot water constantly. Some women keep friend husband in a stew by irritating ways and words. Others roast theirs.

In selecting a husband a girl should not be guided by silvery appearance as in buying a mackerel. The silvery appearance often wears off and is only on the surface. Be sure and select him yourself, as tastes differ, and the guy who pleases Sally might not please you.

Another thing, do not go to the market for him--the best always finds his way to your door.

HOUSEHOLD HINTS - BURNS

Apply castor oil thickly on burns, Then put soda on with fingers. If skin is broken, apply oil and soda to a soft gauze and bind the burn.

Another good help for burns is to apply steeped tea leaves and tea to a burn as quickly as possible after the injury is received. The tannic acid in the tea draws the fire and soothes the burn quickly.

HOUSEHOLD HINTS - OTHER

Keep charcoal in kitchen and when vegetables, meats or fruits scorch, drop a small piece of charcoal in the vessel and the scorched taste will disappear.

Sprinkle a little salt or sugar over apples which are to be used in salads and they will not turn dark.

When boiling beans or other vegetable cover the vessel with a flat pan of cold water. When you need to add more water to the vegetable, the pan of water will be boiling hot, and you will have to use only one burner.

In a custard recipe calling for several eggs, one or more may be omitted if 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch is added for each egg omitted.

A pinch of baking soda added to any boiled syrup will keep it from crystallizing.

When baking a two-crust pie one-half teaspoon water mixed with one spoon sugar brushed over the top crust with pastry brush or white cloth gives a professional stage.

Coffee cream may be whipped by adding one teaspoon of geletin which has been melted and allowed to cool almost to setting stage.

If foods boil over in stove or oven, cover with salt to prevent smoking and excessive odor.

Brown sugar will not become lumpy if stored in a glass jar with a piece of blotting paper fitted to the inside of the lid.

To prevent marshmallows from sticking to the knife when cutting, first dip the knife into boiling water.

Ice trays will not stick in the refrigerator if first set on a piece of waxed paper in the freezing compartment.

An apple cut in half and placed in the cake box will keep the cake fresh several days longer.

When driving a nail into plaster, first rub it on a cake of soap.

Sinks that have become stopped may sometimes be unstopped by covering the opening with baking soda and then pouring vinegar over the soda.

Spots may be cleaned from hats by rubbing corn starch into them and then brushing gently.

To keep small rugs from slipping on polished floors, sew old fruit jar rings to each under corner of the rug.

**** DO YOU KNOW THAT

It's easy enough to be pleasant
When life goes along like a song.
But the one worth while
Is the one who can smile
When everything goes dead wrong?
