Elliott's 82' CJ-7 History
I started out with a 79' CJ-5 that I bought for $2,400 in 2000.  It was a piece.  But, at the time I didn't know anything about them or what to look for in like RUST.  I wanted to restore the jeep but the more I worked on it the more things I found wrong with it.  I wanted a lifted jeep with 33" or 35" tires and this jeep wasn't going to cut it.  It had been previously wrecked and the frame was cracked near the rear of the Jeep and also a little damaged on the front near the shackle mount.  Of course it was well hidden by a high-speed welding job and I didn't notice it when I purchased the Jeep.  So, I sold it in 2001 before it became a money pit.

I bought my current CJ-7 in July 2001 for $5000.  After learning a great deal of what to look for from my CJ-5 experience I was a little more picky on my new purchase.  I wanted a mostly stock CJ-7 with very little to no rust.  I wanted a stock jeep so that I knew what parts were installed, their quality, and the quality of the install.  I wanted to build a fully capable off road Jeep with some pavement luxuries also.

When I purchased my CJ-7 it had the origional Renegade navy blue paint with the lighter blue lettering and decals.  It had practically NO rust anywhere, just what I was looking for.  It also had a stock and strong 258 inline 6-cylinder with no leaks or smoke, T5 transmission, dana 30 front, AMC model 20 rear, 3.31 gear ratio, etc.  Everything was stock on the jeep except for the sawblade wheels and 31" AT tires.  The driver side fender was smushed on the front a little, but I knew I could easily replace that.  I knew I had a great platform to build an awesome Jeep..........
