This is the catwalk of the cells, found upstairs. These cells held women as well as juvenile occupants. The juveniles were held just yards from the living quarters of the Sheriff, and his wife would often check on the children at night. The use of such cells has changed over the years, from a bathroom, to an dark room, excercise room, medical room, as well as storage room. |

There were two contraptions known as turnstiles in the Old Jail, one upstairs and one downstairs. (It is not known whether this particular one was up- or downstairs.) These objects, found right before the inmates' cells, made it possible to hold one person at a time, providing security against potential escapes. They were removed in the 1980s when it became a task to transfer a person who was on a stretcher through the turnstile. |
