| Here is the original seat pan, kind of rusty but complete and no major problems. The plan for this is to restore it with POR 15. If you don't know what that is, it means Paint Over Rust. POR is a paint that cures not dries and prevents any rust in the future. I coated an entire jeep frame in the stuff and nothing will take it off. Remove the surface rust with a wire brush and then clean and degrease the surface. (1/13/07) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Next the surface is coated with a zinc-phosphate solution to neutralize the rust and provide a good bond with the POR 15. (1/13/07) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Once the surface is dry it is coated with the POR 15. I always use a color which contrasts the next layer. Since POR is a basic (like pH>7) coating, an acid etch primer must be applied before the paint for a long-lasting bond. (1/13/07) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After priming the surface it was coated with an epoxy black paint and then an epoxy clear to finish it off. That nasty old seat pan from somebody's farm now looks brand new. (2/11/07) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
