| OCTOBER 13, 2000 The Plaintiffs and the Defendents signed a "Stipulation of Settlement and Order of Dismissal". This agreement was filed with the clerk of the U.S. District Court in Wasghington, D.C. on Ocotber 19, 2000. This brings to a close the action taken by the Plaintiffs on behalf of all collateral duty firefighters in the National Park Service.. January 16, 2001 The National Park Service distributed a memorandum to the Associate Directors, Regional Directors, Associate Regional Directors for Administration, Associate Directors for Park Operations and Park Superintendents. This memorandum was signed by Richard Ring, Associate Director, Park Operations and Education and Sue Masica, Associate Director, Administration. This memorandum informs the park service that "effective January 16, 2001, collateral duty firefighters, age 55 and older, may continue to participate in arduous duty wildland fire suppression on behalf of the NPS. Collateral duty firefighters, including those age 55 and older, must take and pass the Pack Test and medical examination standards prior to being assigned to any arduous duty firefighting duties." The memorandum further states that "The remainder of NPS Director's order # 57 remains in effect." This means that collateral duty firefighters who pass the Pack Test and meet all physical standards/requirements may participate in arduous duty wildland firefighting positions. PLEASE NOTE: It has been brought to our attention that not all parks and not all FMO's have received the above stated memorandum. If your park/FMO has not received this memorandum contact your regional FMO or the office of the Associate Director, Park Operations and Education at WASO for a copy. |
