Charles Downer was originally a chemist of North Pde, Port Adelaide, until taking on making aerated water and ginger beer in 1879 with the purchase of the former James Monro business in Pt. Adelaide.

In 1880, Downer with partner John Henderson expanded operations by purchasing the business of William Nathaniel Crowder of Franklin St, Adelaide. The new partners traded as Crowder & Co. (Adopting the old business name made good commercial sense as it was well known.)

The Port Adelaide & Adelaide branches of the firm continued to trade.
In 1888 Charles Ive joined Downer & Henderson forming Downer & Company, aerated water manufacturers and wine & spirit merchants. A new factory was then built in 1892 in Waymouth St, Adelaide. The business ceased operations in 1926. Downer ginger beer bottles date around 1912.

Condon & McMahon, Port Pirie, South Australia.

Michael Bernard Condon & Patrick Edward McMahon joined as partners after returning from WW1 service as aerated water and ginger beer makers. Their first premises were rather modest, and when the opportunity presented itself in 1922, the partners aided by other family members purchased the former factory of W.H. Moyle who had conducted a similar business.

The premises located on the corner of David & Ellen Streets, Port Pirie were very extensive. The partners decided to trade in the style of Moyle & Company. Business traded successfully until being among the first country businesses to sell out to the Coca Cola company in 1968.
