A selection of broken and full clay pipes dating back to the 1890s.
Take note of the interesting looking pipe with the (toe of a boot) under a soccer ball.
Clay pipes are very abundant in all the late 1800s rubbish tips, there is something very intimate about pipes, they are a very personal object.
They are abundant in tips because they were cheap and were quite fragile, the stems broke often. Many of the pipes were made in Ireland and featured a good selection of designs on the bowls. |
